Belize

I was very curious about Belize. It has a very large American population and the highest cost of living of all of the islands that we visited.
It seems like a very mixed economy. We saw a lot of big houses and a lot of very poor houses on our drive to the ruins.

Very strange tree.

School.

Iguana sunning it self on a wall.

The ruins at Altun Ha were the most impressive. They were built around 900 BC. to 1000 A.D.

See my husband at the top of the stairs?

On top of the ruins at Altun Ha!
Starting the jungle river cruise in Belize.

Bats on a tree trunk.
 Big iguana in the tree.

Big blue heron.

It is so green!
AC in the hut window.

Crocs on the bank.

Iguana in someone's yard.

Costa Maya Mexico

The port of Costa Maya.

The first Mayan ruins we saw were in Costa Maya Mexico. They were called Chacchoban. I was impressed!
Jungle trees

These ruins were built 300-360 BC
We were only allowed to climb part way up.

Ruins not yet excavated.

The ruins were a lot nicer than I expected. It was very hot here. (November). Not too crowded and we had a really good and knowledgeable guide.
I took pictures as we drove to the ruins. Very poor country.
